Biomechanical testing of normal and smoke-inhaled tracheal tissue
PublicThe main goal of this project was to design tensile clamps and a pressure-volume testing device to test the mechanical properties of smoke-damaged and healthy tracheal tissue. Smoke-damaged tissue was hypothesized to be more elastic than healthy tissue, increasing its likeliness of collapse. The data that was collected for both smoke-damaged and healthy tissue was analyzed and compared. Through this comparison, it was concluded that smoke-damaged tissue was likely to collapse due to the tissue degradation caused by smoke inhalation.
