Peaks, passes, and glaciers, 1862

Public Deposited

The Alpine Club published a second series of Peaks Passes and Glaciers in 1862. E.S. Kennedy, the club's second president, edited the volume and highlighted the new first ascents of nine peaks and ten passes as part of the exploration of the Alps. In 1863, the Alpine Club replaced these occasional essays with a club periodical, the Alpine Journal. Images at the beginning of Peaks, Passes and Glaciers show climbers temporarily on a rope above a crevasse while the title page depicts climbers enjoying their summit positions.
