Thermal and Electrical Transport Measurements in Cast and Wrought Aluminum Alloys
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThe goals of this project were to build an apparatus for the measurement of thermal and electrical conductivities of metals, primarily aluminum alloys, and relate these transport properties to the materials' characteristic microstructures. The materials’ microstructure were altered via chemical modification and heat treatment to study the effects on thermal and electrical transport properties. The microstructural characteristics and micro-hardness of the alloys were evaluated. Novel relationships between the alloys conductivities and their microstructural features were uniquely established.
