Development of Prototype Digital Interpretative Touchscreens at Worcester Historical Museum

open in viewerIn an effort to revamp a gallery at WHM, a previous IQP investigated the use of digital technology. The IQP recommended WHM to evaluate a software called Open Exhibits (OE). Our original mission was to develop prototype touchscreens using OE for integration into the gallery. After evaluating OE and concluding that it required a great investment, our mission shifted to building a custom database, which could retrieve and display artifacts and information. In addition, we created an outline for an educational mini-game. The game created an opportunity for audience to engage with the exhibit. We recommend that WHM use the exhibit database and mini-game we created, perhaps expanding and improving upon them with future IQPs, and that they reserve OE for a potential renovation of the gallery.
