Augmented Reality for Otology: A Review of Applications, Benefits, and Limitations

open in viewerAugmented reality has become an increasingly useful tool in medicine. For our sponsor, the Biomechanics of Hearing research group at Universitätsspital Zürich, we provided an overview of how augmented reality could be applied in otology. We performed a literature review of medical augmented reality applications and conducted interviews with expert otologic surgeons and researchers. We determined that augmented reality may have valuable navigational and educational applications but requires more development before seeing clinical use in otology.
