Image 06 of Theo Brown Diaries, 1948
Public DepositedFriday Jan. 2 1948 Five inches of snow yesterday with temperatures above freezing made driving possible. In late afternoon Elise Bill and I went over to see the Vollmers. Bill left for St. Louis in the evening, his train was about two hours late in leaving, Elise Lee Bill Cade & I at station to see him go. Bill is very happy in his work of painting. He feels he is making progress. He knows the right people. He thinks it will take perhaps two or three years more to know if painting can be his life work. His painting, I cant, understand for it is abstract, but I can see he has creative ability, an idea of design and color to a marked degree. I told Bill I couldn't help him much except financially but that his mother and I feel he is the one to decide his life's work. He said if the painting does not work out he will probably teach. It is possible he may want to get an M.A. degree next year. He is considering this. He is a grand person and very lovable.
