Hepatitis C treatment study in Massachusetts state correctional facilities

Public

The purpose of this study was to establish a working treatment database of Hepatitis C infected inmates in Massachusetts state correctional facilities. As of March 2005, 262 inmates had been treated for HCV. Overall demographics and characteristics of the inmates treated were summarized. Important results include a majority of inmates treated are Caucasian, male and HCV genotype 1. Additionally, nearly half of the inmates treated responded to treatment, reaching an undetectable HCV viral load. This database will continue to grow as more inmates are treated for HCV.
