Utilizing mold design and injection velocity to achieve a net shaped thixomolded part

Public

This project uses injection velocity of magnesium AZ91D and mold design to create a net-shaped thixomolded part. The design of the mold contains no overflow tabs, which is contrary to molds built for thixomolded parts. Instead of using overflow tabs to assist with the melding of the material, the injection velocity is increased to assist with the melding. The results showed that if overflow tabs are not used, then increasing the injection velocity can be an alternate solution for melding defects.
