Methods for Educating Novices in Object Oriented Design
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerObject oriented design is often left out of novice level OO courses. The purpose of this project is to find a method that can be used to effectively integrate design in a novice level OO course. A group of high school novices were given a course in an attempt to demonstrate the project goals. The course was centered on two different methods; one involved a large project with abstract guidelines and the other involved a small project with specific guidelines. Results were obtained through observations of the students as well as a comprehension exam at the end of the course. The method that involved the smaller project demonstrated its potential to be used to effectively educate novices using design as part of an object oriented course.
