Synthesis and photochemistry of 3-Amino-5-phenyl-1,2,4-thiadiazole and 5-Amino-3-phenyl-1,2,4-thiadiazole

Public

3-Amino-5-phenyl-1,2,4-thiadiazole was synthesized and its photochemistry studied. Irradiation at 300 nm led to the formation of benzonitrile, the photofragmentation product, in 41% yield and 5-amino-3-phenyl-1,2,4-thiadiazole, the phototransposition product, in 5% yield. The latter was also synthesized by a novel route. Irradiation of this compound at 254 nm led only to the formation of benzonitrile, the photofragmentation product, in 47% yield.
