A device to induce stumbling for treadmill gait studies
PublicFor those who use prosthetic limbs, falls can have severely debilitating effects. In an effort to increase the ability of a prosthetic knee wearer to react to potential stumbling situations, Liberty Technology commissioned this project to design and build a device that safely and repeatably tripped a subject walking on a treadmill. The device was used to determine if consistent electromyographic signals are present during stumbling. These gait studies culminated in the design of microprocessor-controlled prosthetic knee with stumble prevention.
