Cohousing is an intentional form of living that creates tight-knit communities. Within this report, the communal space for a twenty-person cohousing development in Bozeman, Montana, was designed. These types of buildings come with unique design requirements and occupational needs. The final product consisted of a site analysis, room program, floor plan, architectural model(developed in Revit), and two fully framed schematics: one for lightweight construction and one for Cross Laminated Timber (CLT)/Glulam. Design elements within both alternatives include placement and sizing of beams, columns, and varying roof/floor/wall systems, thus exploring the functionality of CLT versus lightweight construction for two-story multi-residential buildings.
