Asymmetric prostaglandin synthesis
PublicProstaglandins are medically interesting because of the wide variety of roles they play in the body. This project draws upon previous research on the total synthesis of a prostaglandin skeleton via a noncyclic precursor. The focus of this research is optimization: by finding a facile route to an important chiral acetylenic ester intermediate, the total synthesis can be improved. Kinetic resolution of the key ester via a lipase isolated from Candida antarctica is explored.
