Public DepositedTHURSDAYMARCH 25 1948 Elise has a man (McLoughlin) fixing up our yard. Elise & I went to the Holy Maundy service at Church in evening. Dorothy Priester joined the church as did the Altgelts. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ having long since foreclosed upon the verdure there. In place of the vine came up the tomato can, while the fungus growth of the ashchute shot up aloft like some huge rocket of distress exhaling a cloud of incense at every joint. Emaciated hens wandered to and fro and barely sustained their eggless lives from their protracted scratchings on a barren soil. The earthly tabernacles of deceased cats put on their progressive stages of corruption as they lingered here and there in question- able mural decoration awating an internment of the convenience of the family. Tier upon tier of revolving clothes reels like Jacob's Ladder mounted unto heave on whose innumerable lines were constantly ascending and descending a miscellaneous assortment of the various clarified habiliments belonging to the toiling tribes of earth....spotless and without stain they rose triumphant from their watery grave having passed with bitter tears though the wringer of repentence and being born again into another weeks brief span of life's activities. Promiscuously kneeing and elbowing one another till verily they seemed but the sport of the idle wind as it unduly inflated them to demensions they wot not of in their customary investment of frail mortality. And he came to the house specified in the ad. And he blew up many an aperture by the doorway into the great unkown and no one answered him till faintly from far-off a small voice bade him be of good cheer take heart and come up higher. And he did so, groping his devious way by faith and not by sight up many a darkened stairway, colliding with the refrigerator, the coal hod, the baby carriage assembled apon the successive land- ings there, until at last in the rarified atmosphere of the 7th floor he stood face to face with what seemed to be the ingredients of an unhired girl.
