Evolution of the truck in World War I

Public

This MQP essay investigates the evolutionary beginnings of motor transport, particularly the truck, on the western front during WWI. An analysis of the British and American experiences with motor transport -- using George Basalla's theory of technological evolution to explain changes in truck features and organization that occurred during the war -- demonstrates the gradual and problematic nature of military motorization during WWI, and details the way in which motor transport coexisted with other forms of land-based transportation.
