Evolution of the truck in World War I
PublicThis MQP essay investigates the evolutionary beginnings of motor transport, particularly the truck, on the western front during WWI. An analysis of the British and American experiences with motor transport -- using George Basalla's theory of technological evolution to explain changes in truck features and organization that occurred during the war -- demonstrates the gradual and problematic nature of military motorization during WWI, and details the way in which motor transport coexisted with other forms of land-based transportation.
