Building privacy policies into software systems can greatly increase the ease of handling sensitive information and reduce the possibility of information misuse. However, such a system only works if the way the software enforces the policy matches user expectations about the policy. Therefore it is important that we understand how users think about privacy policies to help negotiate discrepancies between user and system interpretations of a policy.
