Kin schooling tendencies in wood frog tadpoles

Public

In this work, two possible benefits of kin schooling were tested; thermoregulation, and predator avoidance. It was found that when exposed to a predatory stimulus, (Anax junius), wood frog tadpoles did not preferentially school with kin or with non-kin. Also, tadpoles were shown to preferentially school loosely with non-kin at 15?C and 25?C, but, they did not school with either kin or non-kin at 20?C. From this it was concluded that neither temperature nor predation [elicit] kin recognition.
