Exploring Community Perceptions of Rural Wastewater Treatment Development
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerKamenicë, a rural village in Korçë, Albania, currently lacks a formalized wastewater treatment system. The water utility UKKO, sponsor of this project, has recently been tasked with providing wastewater treatment services to the community. Framed as a case study, this project explored the perceptions of residents towards the potential development. Expert interviews, participatory mapping, and photo documentation were used to understand the village’s geographic characteristics. Interviews with residents and other community members provided insight into Kamenicë’s history, culture, and socioeconomics as well as people’s experiences, perceptions, and opinions of wastewater. The resulting case study can be referenced to supplement social considerations of wastewater treatment development.
