Evaluation of a bioreactor for the growth of chondrocytes on a polyglycolic acid scaffold
PublicBrief Design evaluation of a bioreactor for growth of chondrocytes on polymer matrices was conducted. Varying compositions of polyglycolic acid and poly-l-lactic acid were studied to determine an optimal matrix construction. A media usage period was determined. DNA and cell numbers as well as extracellular matrix components were measured at higher concentrations within the bioreactor than for static controls. Design modifications were implemented to eliminate contamination. The results support the use of bioreactors for cartilage growth over static culture.
