Effects of hyperventilation on the effort-flow relationship in normal horses
PublicA non-invasive system, utilizing respiratory inductive plethysmography and a flowmeter (RIP-flow), of testing lung function in horses was tested and compared to the conventional system now used. Changes in a number of RIP-flow variables that correlate with changes in the conventional variables as a result of hyperventilation were found. It was determined that a different way of analyzing the RIP-flow variables is needed in order to avoid introducing error into the measurements from the manipulations.
