Design of a continuous-motion blade feed mechanism
PublicIn an assembly process for razor blades, currently an index-dwell mechanism is used to load blades from a magazine onto the machine's nests. To improve productivity, we developed a continuous-motion mechanism capable of moving 1500 ppm. The final design consists of fifteen tools rotating around the stationary cam. A blade loader slices blades off a stack and delivers them to the tool, which matches the velocity of the nests and releases the blades onto the nest within a precise location.
