August 24 WEDNESDAY 237 Clear At 6 Clarence Zantzinger, Smith & I left in my car for Profile House etc. We had breakfast at the Walker House Camp and started climbing Mt Lafayette 5649 ft. at 815. We went up the Greenleaf trail by Eagle Cliffs to Greenleaf Hut thru Eagle Pass. 21/2 miles thento Summit of Lafayette 33/4 miles in 31/2 hrs. It is a wonderful view from the top. There is an old cellar foundation on the top. Here we ate lynch and then went along the Franconia 5089 Ridge Trail to Mt Lincoln one mile away. A magnificent peak. Then down on a knife edge and up Little Haystack 11/2 miles. Then into the scrub and down and up to Mt Liberty 2¼ miles. Then we went down the Liberty spring trail 3¼ miles thru the Flume to the road. Got a ride back thru 6 miles to the site of the Profile House where our car was parked. A splendid day on mountains About 12 miles on the mountains. At Mrd Merrimans for dinner with Amy and Elise. [Photograph: Dorothy Young's home; drawing prev. page]
