Transgenic Animals
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThis IQP examined the controversial topic of transgenic animals, and described its effects on society. The first two chapters focused on the technology itself, describing how transgenic animals are created and screened, and categorized the transgenic animals made to date. The last two chapters went beyond the technology to investigate the ethics, as well as legal and regulatory issues surrounding the controversy. Based on the research performed for this project, the authors concluded that most types of transgenic experiments should be continued, provided that IACUC and FDA supervision continues to balance the animals suffering with reasonable societal needs. The authors also found the current patent system lacking.
