7° MONDAY MARCH 8 1948 Went to Chicago on the 10 o'clock Rocket. Charley Wiman on the train and we had a good visit together. Had a chance to talk over # 101 tractor. Charley is anxious to get costs as compared with a comporable tractor of sterotype design. I said we could build 6 tractors if it is thought wise to go ahead. I said we were working on implements that would cost less than implements for "M". Charley is much interested. The uncertainty of what Russia will do and the thought that twar may be in the offing worries Charley about buying steel for delivery 6 to 9 months ahead. what to do is the question. Spent afternoon with Ned Dearborn at the National Safety Council. He asked me to go over the plant and talk with the key men and so get an insight of it's workings. Had a good talk with Ned Dearborn, Williams Bill Johnson, Paul Jones, Thompson etc. The Safety Council is really big business about $2,200,000 annually.
