Student Work
A Selective Sensor for Potassium and Ammonium Ions
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerRecent decades have seen considerable research into the field of ionophores, with a large number of such compounds with high selectivity for certain target ions having been synthesized and studied. However, there are few existing designer ionophores capable of selecting between multiple ions, especially ions of similar size and charge. The goal of this project was to develop such a compound that is capable of sensing both potassium and ammonium ions, depending on pH conditions of the surrounding system.
