Effect of Promensil on Breast Cancer Cells in regard to the Estrogen Receptor Beta
PubblicoContenuto scaricabile
open in viewerPromensil is an over-the-counter phytoestrogen supplement, originally intended to treat menopause, which has been shown to decrease breast cancer proliferation. This project examined this effect of Promensil, based on the estrogen receptor beta (ER-B). Using T47D cells with a tetracycline tunable ER-B, a decrease in cell proliferation was observed, but with no correlation to ER-B. Rather, Promensil appeared to compete with 17B-estradiol for estrogen receptor alpha. For the future, the correlation between ER-a and the phytoestrogen components of Promensil should be studied.
