New evolutions in wireless prototyping technology have resulted in new opportunities and capabilities for experimentation. This thesis investigates how radar waveforms are designed and propose a test-bed with both fully virtual, and hardware implementations that allow new waveforms to be tested and generated. Additionally, this thesis studies the current state of spectral efficiency and proposes a method to measure unused spectrum using off-the-shelf software defined radios (SDRs) to create a multi node sensor network. This thesis lays the groundwork for future novel work and generates large data sets to be used for future research.
