Vibration Monitor Analog Instrumentation: Accelerometers vs. Strain Gages
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThe goal of the project was to implement a low-cost vibration monitoring device that could be used to detect the presence of a loose screw in a vibrating mechanical system. The instrumentation system was implemented using both strain gages and accelerometers and a performance comparison between the two implementations was made. It was found that with proper signal conditioning, less expensive strain gages showed comparable performance to that of accelerometers.
