In an era where streaming platforms and social networking applications are growing at a rapid pace, measuring the popularity of TV shows is becoming increasingly challenging. There is an urgent need for a more comprehensive and sophisticated model that considers the popularity of a TV program on social media so that advertisers and investors can get a more integrated picture of its value. There have been many studies that have extracted popularity metrics from older social media like Twitter and Facebook. In this paper, I study the emerging social media TikTok and find that the number of Tag views, the number of diggs of the hottest short video and the number of shares are related to the popularity of the related TV series. I found the number of diggs correlated at 0.6 with the number of ratings on IMDB, suggesting a positive relationship between TikTok diggs and popularity.
