Use of informatics in chemistry and biochemistry -- homology modeling of a heavy metal transport ATPase structure

Public

The uses of informatics in chemical and biochemical research were explored. Two chemical database search tools, Beilstein Commander and SciFinder, were analyzed and laboratory manuals for each of these were developed. Two protein homology modeling programs, Cn3D and Deep View, were used to construct models for CopA, a Cu-ATPase based upon the known coordinates of SERCA, a Ca-ATPase. A reasonable CopA model that allows visualization of the residues involve in copper transport was produced.
