This project focused on identifying the requirements that can be built into a software tool to automatically design gear trains. In the project's first stage, various kinematic- and stress-based gear and shaft design equations were sourced from different handbooks. In the second stage, the iterative design process was developed for implementation in the proposed software tool. The final stage involved developing graph representations for gears and shafts as well as creating basic grammar rules to generate gear trains.
