Supramolecular synthesis of binary and ternary three-component systems

An approach to the synthesis of binary and ternary three-component molecular assemblies involving diaza- acceptors, 1,4-diazabicyclooctane, 4,4'-bipyrdyl, N,N-dimethylpiperazine, and various phenols is described. It is shown that ternary complexes can be predictably synthesized using two similar supramolecular synthons but with different molecules providing the functional groups for forming these synthons. Microscopic, spectroscopic (IR, NMR), and X-ray diffraction characterization of binary and ternary complexes are presented, and methods for creating multi-component quaternary and polynary aggregates are suggested.
