Remotely operable micro-environmental observatory

Público

The extreme conditions of Antarctica make it a challenging environment of scientific research. A grant from the National Science Foundation sponsored the development of the Remotely Operable Micro-Environmental Observatory (R.O.M.E.O.). This underwater camera system was developed as a technological model to address year-round Antarctic research needs through the use of "tele-science" rather than human deployment, and to observe and study Giant Agglutinated Foraminifera. This project represents the first of three years of research, design and onsite proof-of-concept testing.
