Simulation of water mist in FDS
PublicA computational fluid model called Fire Dynamics Simulator was demonstrated to be an effective tool in predicting water mist phenomena. Two full-scale fire experiments conducted in the Memorial Tunnel were modeled. Simulations were developed in order to examine the effectiveness of water mist in tunnels. The results illustrated that water mist suppress the flames sufficiently by oxygen depletion, evaporation cooling and radiant heat attenuation. Additionally, it was found that water mist was most effective under smaller velocity ventilation conditions.
