Canine Tracheal Stent: Biocompatibility

open in viewerCanine tracheal collapse results in the weakening of tracheal cartilage rings. As the cartilage weakens, the trachea collapses, causing difficulty breathing, coughing, and discomfort. Self-expanding nitinol stents restore and sustain the tracheas internal area. These stents are susceptible to migration, resulting in stent dislocation and irritation of tracheal tissue. The goal of this project was to design a stent coating to reduce stent migration and improve biocompatibility.
