Developing a Green Business Opportunity for Self-Sustainability in Windhoek’s Informal Settlements
PublicDownloadable Content
open in viewerThis project developed the basis for a business opportunity to create marketable products from recycled materials in Katutura, an informal settlement in Windhoek, Namibia. The team used shared action learning, asset-based community development, interviews, observations, surveys, focus groups, interview coding, and prototyping to select two final products: a table made from wooden pallets and a chair made from tires. After prototyping alongside potential entrepreneurs, the team recommended a production plan and a sales strategy to help start their businesses. The production plan included production instructions, transportation options, and recommendations for material sources. The sales strategy included advertising methods, sales prices, and target customers.
