Weak topologies and metrizability

Public

Much of analysis is based on metric spaces, but there are also very important topological spaces that are not metrizable -- that is, there is no metric that generates the same topology. The purpose of this project was to study weak topologies with the goal of understanding why such topologies are, in general, not metrizable and how they can be made metrizable with as little alteration as possible. We showed that by restricting to particular sets, certain weak topologies are metrizable.
