THE ROLE OF MYOSIN LIGHT CHAIN KINASE IN PROPRANOLOL ACTIVATED ION COTRANSPORT

The role of MLCK in propranolol activated flux of potassium ions in red blood cells was monitored via a computerized method using ion selective electrodes. An inhibitor specific to MLCK, ML-7, was introduced to a suspension of cells, and propranolol was added. Potassium concentrations were taken for 100 minutes. After treatments of different concentrations of ML-7, inhibition was seen via a decrease in the observed PK values. This discovery leads to the further characterization of the role of MLCK in the proposed mechanism of propranolol activated potassium flux.
