The effect of direct to consumer advertising of prescription drugs on elderly adults

open in viewerThis study was completed to analyze the effects of direct to consumer advertising (DTCA) of prescription drugs on the elderly. A survey was completed by 19 elderly individuals at the Gardner, Massachusetts Senior Center. The survey assessed familiarity with DTCA as well as responses to a magazine ad for the drug Zetia. The results were insignificant, however, a larger sample size could have shown that familiarity with DTC drug advertisements was correlated to requesting specific advertised medications from a doctor.
