Use of PZT sensors and their behavior in concrete beams

Public

This project examines the potential use of PZT strips as health monitoring devices in concrete bridges. Reinforced concrete beams were dynamically tested to determine the behavior of PZT strips in conjunction with strain gauges. Results obtained from experiments were utilized to design a reinforced concrete bridge with PZT strips embedded to aid in health monitoring of the structure. It was concluded that PZT strips can be used in energy harvesting as well as monitoring of bridge health.
