With limited access to support and treatment for individuals with disabilities in rural Cuenca, Ecuador, Kawallu Hippotherapy Center is one of the few non-profit organizations that directly gives individuals of all socioeconomic backgrounds direct access to hippotherapy and equine therapy. Kawallu expanded its clientele to include adults and needs to update their horse mounting and dismounting methods. Current mounting methods were explored through observations, interviews, and simulations. A methodology consisting of price evaluations, prototype modeling, and design iterations was implemented to create a mounting mechanism design that will allow Kawallu to mount adults onto a horse. A prototype of a pulley system was designed and modeled using 3D modeling software. A booklet of information, including installation instructions, testing and usage steps, price evaluations of materials, and contact information of contractors were presented to our sponsors.
