This project sought to identify problems affecting the rejection and vandalism of the sanitation facilities in the informal settlements of Windhoek, Namibia. In the process, we found the sanitation problem was a reflection of various social issues all stemming from the apartheid era. However, in identifying the social factors, we found that the main issue was the lack of effective communication between the Municipality and settlement communities. This resulted in residents' sanitation needs being unknown.
