Optical ear tissue phantom for use with a noninvasive glucose monitor
PublicThe goal of this project was to design an ear tissue phantom that would be used to test a non-invasive blood glucose monitor being developed by VivaScan Corporation in West Boylston, MA. The phantom was to have an identical near infrared spectrum to a human earlobe over the range of 1380 +/- 3nm and 1620 nm. The phantom that was constructed consisted of 55% water mixed in a silicone base. It was shown that this mixture of water and silicone adequately modeled the optical properties of the human earlobe over the desired measurement range.
