EIA transmission by an inapparent carrier
PubblicoTransmission of Equine Infectious Anemia virus (EIAV) was evaluated in a group of twenty horses, which is divided into three herds. An inapparent carrier of EIAV has lived in the group for ten years. Horses in the group roam free and breeding is unmonitored. Behavioral observations and investigation of local insect populations supported the prediction that transmission from the inapparent carrier was likely. Serum antibody tests confirmed transmissions occurred on only two horses.
