Feasibility of kabeljou aquaculture systems in Namibia.

open in viewerThe goal of our project was to assess the feasibility of kabeljou aquaculture in Namibia and to decide whether a land-based or an open-ocean system would be more economically feasible. In order to perform our analysis, it was important to work backwards, starting with a preliminary study of the fish market in the United States, then assessing the best processing methods, and finally analysing the costs associated with each aquaculture system. We found that kabeljou aquaculture is not currently feasible in Namibia, but could become profitable with the development of other support industries. Our liaison in Namibia was Dr. Ben Van Zyl, the Deputy Director of Resource Management for the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources.
