Pratt and Whitney / WPI learning factory EB-PVD TBC

Öffentlich

The goal of this year's Pratt and Whitney/WPI Learning Factory project is to create a rules based software system that will specify the process parameters to fabricate a contoured Electronic Beam -- Physical Vapor Deposited (EB-PVD) Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) on a PW4000 second stage turbine blade in Pratt and Whitney's coater one. This project continues the experimental measurement of the TBC thickness as a function of position, and works to calibrate and validate a theoretical model of this deposition. Microstructure of the TBC was also studied. A shadowing fixture was designed to be used to investigate the effects of shadowing on coating thickness. Also, a Visual Basic program was designed and created to act as the backward chaining function of the rules based software system.
