Non-invasive metal detection
PubblicoA system for detecting molten aluminum through six (6) inches of resin-bonded sand is presented. Its implementation is based upon the concept of eddy current testing as a means of non-destructive evaluation. This report details the design of an electro-magnet as a transducer and an Automatic Gain Control (AGC) circuit built upon an Op-Amp resonator. The project was funded by General Motors and the performance of the system was evaluated through testing with molten aluminum at Metal Casting Technology, Inc.
