Design and manufacture of composite beams

Public

The project involved the design and manufacture of two non-uniform composite beams modeled as alpine skis. Each ski was designed to have a different longitudinal stiffness to determine its effect on ski performance. Laboratory testing was performed on the two composite beams, as well as an analysis and field test. The results indicated a correlation between ski bending stiffness at very low speeds, but at higher speeds the stiffness difference could not be felt.
