TY - RPRT A1 - Hao, Mei AB - Dynamometer is a common type of device that measures the force, torque or power in a system. Current dynamometer brakes have the problem of generating unstable torque during operation. This project aims to design a new dynamometer brake that provides braking with low torque ripple. The final design utilized viscous shear braking which was proven by Atlas Copco experiments to be capable of providing stable torque. To fix design parameters, the team performed fluid dynamic calculations and heat transfer simulations. Detailed design drawings were created and a product prototype was manufactured and tested. Though the final prototype performance was affected by precision limits in manufacturing, the model met several design requirements and showed potential of stable torque generation.
