Assessment of Chartered Dive and Snorkel Operations in Puerto Rico

open in viewerThis project, sponsored by the Department of Natural and Environmental Resources in Puerto Rico, sought to aid in the transition from an outdated recreational fishing reporting system to a more modern one. A list of all chartered dive and snorkel operators on the island was compiled and information collected on their marine species collection habits, particularly with regard to queen conch and spiny lobster. While nearly all operators have access to the internet from their business, the vast majority of them do not collect any marine species, making frequent internet reporting unnecessary. This report also offers recommendations for improving tense relations between chartered operators and the DNER, with the shared goal of improving marine resources.
